20世纪60年代，美国的中国学研究进一步规范、科学，出现前所未有的发展。研究的重点从传统中国转向现当代中国，内容涉及中国政治、经济、军事、外交、金融、历史和文化等各个方面。美国中国学注重研究“模式”，确立“取向”，研究特点是跨学科、跨专业，吸取社会科学诸多学术养分，丰富自己的研究模式和内容。同时“地区研究”在许多美国大学和研究机构全面展开，随着国际局势和中美紧张关系的逐渐缓和，美国中国学研究进入新的发展阶段。中国学研究不仅有助于美国民众了解中国政治、经济、社会和历史文化，而且为促进中美关系的改善奠定了话语基础。中国学研究为美国政府制订全球战略和推动中美关系的发展提供了重要的参考依据。
The areas for American scholarship on China have broadened and diversified since 1960s.The major focus of scholastic fields has changed from traditional China to modern China in such areas as politics，economics，military，foreign affairs，finance，history and sociology.Not only did scholars begin to attach greater importance to the methods of inquiry，but also they began to construct the new paradigms and academic approaches.Interdisciplinary studies and the growing impact of the social sciences on historical thinking has become the main feature of modern American China Studies which became more problem-orientated.As an instrument by which the experts of China Studies could provide a meaningful context for the application of social science thinking.It presented unique function at many universities and institutes in this country.As the international situation and the Sino-U.S.tensions gradually eased，American China Studies began to enter a new development stage.The scholarship on China’s foreign policy has made remarkable achievements.China Studies not only help American people understand Chinese politics，economy，society and culture，but also lay the basis of discourse for promoting the bilateral diplomatic relations.
