Nanjing has been the capital of ten dynasties in Chinese history and is famed for its rich culture，long history and beautiful landscape.

As one of the eight great ancient capitals in China，Nanjing has a long history and is awarded the title of“Famous Historic and Cultural City”by the State Council.In 472 B.C.Goujian，the king of Yue State，started to build the city at Yuhuatai and called it“Yue city”.In 229 A.D.the Eastern Wu Dynasty of the Three Kingdoms moved its capital to Nanjing and started to develop“Jianye city”as it was named then.Subsequently the Eastern Jin，Song，Qi，Liang and Chen Dynasties，Southern Tang Dynasty，Ming Dynasty，Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and Republic of China all made Nanjing their capital.In so doing，they left behind many famous attractions，including the willowed banks of Xuanwu Lake，bright lights and river scenery of Confucius Temple，ancient city wall(the best preserved in the world)，World Heritage-listed Ming Tomb，Dr.Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum，Jinghai Temple，Presidential Palace and many other places of historical interest.Among the many protected cultural relics and sites in Nanjing，one has been inscribed on the World Heritage List，14 enjoy national-level protection，while 135 have provincial level protection.As a result，Nanjing has three distinctive types of culture: the culture of the Six Dynasties，the culture of the Ming Dynasty，the culture of the Republic of China.

Nanjing's favorable geographical location and picturesque landscape have made it a famous tourist city.Nanjing is situated on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River where the four seasons are clearly demarcated，bringing plenty of rainfall and abundant produce.The mountains，lakes，rivers，forests and the city are beautiful all the year round.In spring，it is common to visit Niushou Mountain scenic area's misty greenness.In summer the sunlight and clouds in the eastern suburbs are famous，while in autumn people prefer to climb up the splendid Qixia Mountain，and lastly，in winter it is recommended to view the stone city wall under the white snow.Nanjing's magnificent scenery extends across the seasons and across the city's reach.

Nanjing is a modern city brimming with dynamism and confidence.Nanjing has comprehensive strengths and is one of the four national key cities for science and commerce.The city's highly developed infrastructure makes it an important transportation and communication hub in Eastern China.With dynamic trade and commerce sectors，it is also the most important commercial city in the Yangtze River delta region after Shanghai.As an ancient capital city，green city，cultural city，riverside city and city of fraternity，Nanjing has emerged as one of China's most attractive destinations for investment and living.Nanjing has been awarded several honorable titles for its outstanding achievements，including“National Advanced City for Scientific and Technological Progress”，“National Excellent Tourist City”，“National Hygienic City”and“National Model City for Environmental Protection”.As one of the“forty Chinese cities with best environ-ments for investment”，Nanjing is also regarded as one of the Asian-Pacific Rim cities with the best development prospects in the 21st century.

南京是一个以古都闻名的城市，以其丰富的文化、悠久的历史和旖旎的风光而著称。

作为中国八大古都之一，南京有着悠久的历史，被国务院授予了“历史文化名城”的称号。早在公元前472年，越王勾践开始在雨花台建立南京城，因而南京又被称为“越城”。公元229年，三国时的东吴迁都南京，开始建造“建邺城”。此后，东晋、宋、齐、梁、陈、南唐、明、太平天国和中华民国都曾设都城于南京。这些朝代留下了许多著名的景点，包括:玄武湖柳堤、孔庙、古城墙、明陵、孙中山纪念堂、静海寺、总统府及其他许多名胜古迹。在南京众多的文物和遗址中，被列入世界遗产名录的有1处，属于国家一级保护单位的有14处，属于省一级保护单位的有135处。

南京具有有利的地理位置和优美的自然景观，也是著名的旅游城市。南京地处长江下游，四季分明，降水丰富，从而带来大量的农业产值。春天，可见到牛首山风景区的蒙蒙绿意;夏日，东郊的阳光和云海最负盛名;而灿烂的秋季栖霞山最受游客青睐;冬季则可欣赏石头城墙下的白雪。可以说南京的美景无时无处不在!

南京是一个充满活力和自信的现代化城市。南京综合实力很强，是四大国家重点科技商务城市之一。南京基础设施齐全，是华东地区重要的交通通信枢纽之一，也是继上海之后长江三角洲地区最重要的商业城市。作为古都城、绿色城、文化城、沿江城和友好城，南京已成为中国最具吸引力的投资目的地和生活地。南京获得了许多荣誉称号，主要包括:“全国科技进步先进市”、“全国优秀旅游城市”、“国家卫生城市”、“国家环境保护模范城市”。同时，南京还被列为“中国投资环境最好的40个城市”，也被誉为亚太地区21世纪最具发展前景的大城市之一。
