西泠桥畔有苏小小墓和慕才亭。苏小小是六朝南齐钱塘人。苏家祖先曾在东晋做过官,后人流落到钱塘经商。苏小小15岁时,父母谢世,带着乳母移居西泠桥。她天生丽质,姿色倾城,能歌善诗,是钱塘有名的歌女。一次偶然在烟霞岭下的破庙中遇到落魄的书生鲍仁,正在苦读诗文,怜才之心油然而生,便慷慨解囊,资助鲍仁上京赶考。
Close to Xiling bridge is Su Xiaoxiao’s Tomb and Mucai pavilion.Su Xiaoxiao was born in hangzhou in the Southern Qi of the Six Dynasties.Su’s forefather was an official in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the descendants of Su family moved to Qiantang and were engaged in business.Su Xiaoxiao was fifteen when both her parents died.She and her nanny moved to Xiling Bridge.A very beautiful girl,Su was good at singing and poetry and became known as a singer in Qiantang.Once she chanced to come across a poor scholar Bao Ren,who was working hard in his studies in a dilapidated old temple at the foot of Yanxia Ridge.Su Xiaoxiao showed pity to the gifted scholar.She gave Bao Ren a lot of money and urged him to take part in the imperial examination in the capital.
佳人慧眼识英才,红颜偏偏又薄命。次年的夏秋之交,苏小小夜犯风寒,在青春的22岁辞世,临终嘱托埋骨西泠。此时鲍仁已科场高中,授任滑州刺史,专程赶来钱塘酬谢红粉知己。痴情鲍仁抚棺痛哭,遵照小小的遗愿,在西泠桥择地造墓,墓前立起高大的石碑,上题“钱塘苏小小之墓”。
At the turn of the summer and autumn the following year,Su Xiaoxiao got a typhoid fever at night.She died when she was at the prime of her life at 22.She made her last request on her death bed of having her buried by the side of the Xiling Bridge.By at that time,Bao Ren had been a great success at the imperial examination and was nominated governor of huazhou.he made a special trip to Qiantang to reward his beautiful benefactor.he wept bitterly in front of her tomb.According to Su’s last wishes,she was buried beside the Xiling Bridge,and in front of her tomb stood a large stone tablet with the words “Qiantang Su Xiaoxiao’s Tomb”.
