President Enarson，colleagues of the Ohio State University，Ladies and Gentlemen：

Let me first of all in the name of the president and colleagues of Wuhan University give you our warm greetings.

I consider that your welcome of my being here is not for me as a per-son rather I consider it as a symbol of your respect and friendship to my university and to the Chinese people.

The state of Ohio is now well known to the people of my Province Hubei(Province is equivalent to your State)，since the visit of your governor and his delegation established the close bound between our two states.It is therefore，a great pleasure as well as an honour to be in Columbus and on your campus.I must say honestly your university is one of the largest(16 000 students on one campus)and one the most beautiful universities that I have ever visited.

Although we are signing the exchange program between your university and Wuhan University tonight，but actually exchange of some sort has been going on for some time.During the last couple years，I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to many colleagues from your university on our campus and it is quite appropriate that we should have a formal agreement so it will be of mutural benefit.There is no doubt that we have lots to learn from you and I think there are things that we can offer you too.Academic exchange is a two way affair but of course not necessary on equal terms.I think the spirit of good will and friendship that go with exchange program is of equal importance.Friendship is based on mutural understanding and mutural understanding depends upon personal contact so let us praise，support and cultivate and develop our exchange program to full blossom as the years go by.

I want to take this opporiunity to express my thanks to President Anason and many colleagues of the university for the kindness and hospitality to me while I am on the campus.I am deeply touched.I only hope that when any of you visits Wuhan，we'll be able to repay your hospitality even a little bit.
