大自然的五个王国 The 5 Kingdoms of Nature
地球诞生之初，出现的第一个生命是最渺小的，甚至根本看不见：细菌。细菌独自生活了十亿年。因为那时地球表面上都是水，它们在水中大量繁衍。要创造出新的细菌，它们只需一分为二，新生命就这么诞生了。
Ｗhen the Earth was born,there was first life from the smallest,even the invisible: bacteria.Bacteria lived alone for a billion of years.Since the Earth was then covered in water,they thrived in water.In order to create new bacteria,they just split in two,and life started all anew.

现在第一个生命王国分化出了两大家族
The first Kingdom of life now had two families...
有些细菌会产生许多叫作氧气的废物，慢慢地，空气中充满了氧气。氧气太多了，这对细菌可是致命的。有些细菌学会了如何呼吸，把氧气转化成能量，一个新家族就这样诞生了。生命的第一个王国——细菌（无核原生生物）现在分化出了两大家族：一个可以在无氧环境中生存，另一个则需要氧气维持生命。
Some bacteria produced a lot of waste called oxygen.Slowly the air was full of it.There was too much oxygen waste and it was toxic to them.Some bacteria learned how to breathe,how to convert oxygen into energy,and a new family was born.The first Kingdom of life,the bacteria (Monera),now had two families: those who live without oxygen and those who live off oxygen.
细菌在不断成长，它们和朋友、来访者甚至敌人结合在一起，形成了新的形状和种类。当成千上万个细胞组成一种新结构时，一种新的有机体就诞生了：原生生物。它们看起来像藻类或黏菌，螺旋藻成了原生生物王国的女王。
Bacteria grew.Friends and visitors,even enemies made new shapes and forms by sticking together.When thousands of cells formed a new structure,a new type of organism was born: the Protista.They look like algae or slime molds.The Spirulina became the Queen of Protista.

This new Kingdom of Protista has offspring when a male and a female join together
地球上出现了第二个王国，两个王国幸福地生活在一起。新的原生生物王国里的雄性和雌性结合就有了后代。又过了几百万年，菌类和植物先是在水里，后来在陆地上开始了它们的生活。
A second kingdom emerged on Earth,and the two Kingdoms lived happily together.This new Kingdom of Protista has offspring when a male and a female join together.Another million years later,fungi and plants started finding their way first in the water and later also on land.
植物和树木和谐生长，菌类和细菌一同将植物排出的废物转化成了树木的养分。这就又出现了两个王国：植物王国和菌类王国。
Plants and trees grew in harmony; fungi and bacteria converted the waste from the plants into food for the trees.Two more Kingdoms had emerged: the Kingdom of Plants,and the Kingdom of Fungi.

The King of Plants and the King of Fungi
橡树成了植物之王，灵芝成了菌类之王。这四个王国幸福地生活在一起。在细胞们的共同努力下，生物开始有了形态，长出了四肢。
The Oak tree became the King of Plants; the Lingzhi became the King of Fungi.They all four lived happily together.Cells were working together and began shaping and producing limbs.
四肢使生物能够奔跑、飞翔和爬行。昆虫、鱼类、鸟类和哺乳动物丰富了地球上的生命，形成了美丽而多样化的动物王国。狮子成了动物之王。
Limbs permitted their owners to run,to fly,and to creep.Insects,fish,birds and mammals enriched life on Earth with their beautiful and diverse Kingdom of Animals.The Lion became the King.

它们幸福地生活在一起
And they lived happily together
它们幸福地生活在一起。一些动物以草和植物为食，而另一些动物食肉。它们的排泄物由细菌转化成腐殖质，细菌你几乎看不见，但是它们却无处不在。腐殖质为菌类和植物提供养分，菌类和植物又提供养分给动物。
And they live happily together.Some animals eat grass and plants and some like meat.Their waste is converted to humus by bacteria that are nearly invisible and yet found everywhere.The humus supports fungi and plants that produce nutrients that animals can use.
几十亿年后，有些动物学会了在需要时怎样生火。直到今天，这类动物仍然是地球上唯一知道怎样生火的物种。从此以后，许多生物连夜晚也不能安然入睡了。

After billions of years,some animals learned how to make fire whenever they wanted.Today,that one species is still the only species that knows how to make fire.Many have had sleepless nights ever since.
