一群细菌正坐在酒吧里聊天。
一个细菌开玩笑地说：“你们听说了吗？人类现在竟然管自己叫‘智人’呢。”
“没错，他们真的是这么称呼自己的，‘智人’就是知道如何获得知识的人。”
“他们甚至还在尝试创造从来不存在的新物种呢！”

“Did you hear that these humans now call themselves Homo sapiens?”jokes one bacterium.
“Yes,they actually call themselves the Homo sapiens,the ones who know how to know.”
“They are even trying to create new species that never existed before!”

坐在前排的一个细菌说：“那有什么特别的？我们细菌从出现那天起就一直都在这样做呀。”
“可人类不知道啊。这些人用胡萝卜基因创造出红色稻米，就以为他们创造了生命。”
“那就是他们的全部本领吗？这太简单了吧，十亿年前我们细菌就做过了。”
“What is so special about that?We have been doing that as long as we have been around,”shouted the one in front.
“They don’t know that.These people believe they have invented life by creating red rice with carrot genes.”
“Is that all they can do?That is so basic.We did those a billion years ago.”
“这些‘智人’太狂妄了。他们也就存在了几百万年，却表现得好像自己已经是这个世界的老大一样。”
“These Homo sapiens are quite arrogant.They only emerged a couple million years ago and they already act like they are the bosses of the world.”

“We should organize a little indigestion so they realize that without us they cannot even digest their food.”
“No,no,that is too easy.We should create a tiny new symbiotic organism so they see how we,the Monera,create new forms of life.”

“Well the sloth has it.You know that slow moving mammal that sleeps in the trees?”
“那不过是藻类长在它的身上，才让它的颜色那么滑稽。”
“这样，我们可以制造一场小小的惊喜，让某个物种长四只眼睛，披绿色的毛发！”
“这听起来很好玩。”
“But those are algae that give it that funny color.”
“So we can arrange a little surprise and have something with four eyes and green hair!”
“That sounds like fun.”

Remember their shock when they saw us for the first time through a microscope?
