一只猫头鹰坐在一棵苹果树的树杈上，树上结满了成熟的果子，看上去已经熟得快掉下来了。

“你知道人们能算出苹果掉到地面有多快吗？”猫头鹰问树下的老鼠。
““Did you know that people can calculate how fast the apple drops to Earth?” says the owl to a mouse below.
“我对这个不感兴趣。我饿了，想吃东西。”老鼠回答道。
‘i am not interested in that, I am hungry and want food,” says the mouse.
我饿了！
I am hungry!
这是科学！
This is science!
“唉，你应该感兴趣才对，这是科学。人们探索大自然是如何工作的，你可以从中学到很多东西。”
“人们根本不知道大自然是如何工作的。”
“忙碌的小老鼠，你有点太傲慢了吧？难道你认为你比被称作‘智人’的人类还聪明吗？”
‘well you should be interested, this is science, and you can learn a lot from what people find out about how nature really works.”
“People have no idea how nature works.”
“You busy little mouse, you are quite arrogant! Do you think you know more than people who are known as Homo sapiens?”
“我懂得不多，但我至少不会假装能用某种被叫作‘数学’的魔术去解释一切。”
“但这个公式不是魔术，它可以让我们去理解并且使计算变得精确。”
‘I do not know more, but at least I do not pretend that I can explain everything with some magic called mathematics.”

Pulls out a feather and drops it...
“你有羽毛吗？”老鼠问猫头鹰。
“当然，我是鸟啊。”猫头鹰生气地瞪着眼说。
“丢一根下来。”老鼠建议。
猫头鹰拔了一根羽毛，丢了下来。
风吹动着羽毛，大约一分钟后，都快要看不见了，它才落到了地面上。
‘Do you have a feather?” says the mouse to the owl.
“Of course, I am a bird!” says the owl glaring down.
“Just drop one,” suggests the mouse.
The owl pulls out a feather, and drops it.
The wind carries it around, and about one minute later, nearly out of sight, it falls onto the ground.
“这用你们智人的公式怎么说？”
“公式这时候不管用，但那是因为风的缘故。” 猫头鹰说。
“那你为什么不在公式里加上风？”
“我不知道怎么做。你知道吗？”
“我一点也不知道。但假如人类也一样不知道，他们就应该被称为无知的人！”老鼠回答。
“这么说可不太好。”
‘so, what about the formula from your Homo sapiens?”
“It would not have worked then, but that is because of the wind,” says the owl.
“So why don’t you add wind to the formula?”“I don’t know how to do that, do you?”
“I have no idea. But if people do not know either, they should be called Homo non sapiens!”replies the mouse.
“That’s not a very nice thing to say.”

“苹果能飞吗？”老鼠问。
“别开玩笑了。你知道，苹果没有翅膀。鸟类才有翅膀，像我这样。”
‘can apples fly?”
“Stop joking. You know apples do not have wings. Birds have wings like I do.”
“好了，我已经听腻了苹果落地的故事，我想知道的是，苹果一开始是怎么长在那里的！”

‘well, I am tired of hearing about the apple falling down, I want to know how the apple got up there in the first place!”
