步骤二。在完成第二自然段时应先写出一个主题句(topic sentence)。此篇作文警句的寓意(implied significance)为毅力是成功之母，因此将主题句的讨论限定在“如何培养毅力”这一范围之内较为恰当，见(3)句。紧随其后的是展开句(developing sentences)。此段落的展开句从两个方面详细阐述了培养毅力的方法，其一是对待失败应采取乐观的态度，见(4)～(7)句;其二是办事要制订计划，见(8)～(10)句。可参考的常用套话如下:
