二、同形或同音异义关系

同音或同形异义关系（homonymy）指的是两个或两个以上的词同形或同形同音或同音而意义不同的语言现象。

1．同形同音异义词

同形词音异义词（perfect hyponym）指的是在拼写和读音上完全相同而意义不同的词。例如：

fair：attractive;beautiful;lovely

fair：a gathering of people held at regular intervals for barter and sale of goods

lie：make a statement that one knows to be untrue

lie：be,put oneself flat on a horizontal surface or in a resting position

sound：what is or may be heard

sound：healthy,not diseased or injured or rotten

sound：measure the depth of（esp.the bottom of a body of water）,as by using a weighted line

同形同音异义词和多义词是有区别的（尽管它们在拼写和读音上是相同的），其区别在于多义词是具有几个可区别义项的同一个词，而同形同音异义词是形式上偶然相同的不同单词；此外，同形同音异义词有着不同的词源，而多义词只有一个词源，在词义的发展过程中获得了不同的意义而已；而且多义词的词义与其中的意义都会有着或多或少的联系，而同形同音异义词则没有。

2．同音异义词

同音异义词（homophone）指的是具有相同的发音而拼写与意义却不同的单词。例如：

sew（缝纫）——sow（播种）

dear（亲爱的）——deer（鹿）

meet（遇见）——mete（边界）——meat（肉）

right（正确的，右边）——write（写）——rite（仪式）——wright（工匠）

3．同形异义词

同形异义词（homograph）指的是有着相同拼写不同读音而且意义不同的词。例如：

tear：drop of salty water coming from the eye

tear：pull sharply apart or to pieces

bow：bending the head as a greeting

bow：the device used for shooting arrows

sow：scatter seeds

sow：female adult pig

lead：guide or take,esp.by going in front,etc

lead：easily melted metal of a dull bluish-grey colour
