一、福州市概况

福州是福建省省会，同时也是全省最大的城市之一，拥有2000多年的悠久历史。长期以来，福州一直是福建主要的港口城市与造船中心，同时也是政治文化与交通运输的中心。自宋代以来，福州市遍植榕树，因此又被称为“榕城”。

福州位于福建省东部，地处闽江下游，距离最近的海域约有50公里。这座城市的历史最早可追溯到公元3世纪，当时福州是闽越国的首都。据说13世纪末期，马可·波罗曾经来过福州，在游记中他称福州为“富饶的国际贸易中心”，赞美福州“秀美花园与各色水果随处可见”。

福州拥有丰富的历史文化传统。从唐代到清代，福州曾培养出成百上千位进士。这里也是许许多多的文化名人与有识之士的故乡。悠久的历史自然赋予这座城市更加深刻的内涵。这里有许多传统的手工艺，如著名的“福州三宝”:脱胎漆器，角梳与纸伞。如今，民间艺术如闽剧仍然活跃在中华文化的舞台上。

Overview of Fuzhou City

Fuzhou，the capital and the largest municipality of Fujian province，boasts a history of over 2，000 years.As a coastal port and shipbuilding center，it has long been the economic，political，cultural and transport center of the province.Many banyan trees have been planted since the Song Dynasty，and now provide shade for the entire city，giving it another name Rong Cheng，which means“city of banyan trees”.

Fuzhou is located in the lower reaches of the Min River，in the east of Fujian Province，about50 km from the sea.Fuzhou’s history dates back to the 3rd century AD.It was once the capital，known as Minzhou，of the coastal kingdom of Minyue.It was said that Marco Polo，the great Italian traveler，also visited the area at the end of the 13^thcentury.He described the city as“a prosperous center of international commerce，with beautiful gardens and abundant fruit”.

In the 1980s，Fuzhou was designated by the central government as one of China’s“open”cities in the new open－door policy inviting foreign investments.This is a city prosperous in culture.From the Tang to the Qing Dynasty，there produced thousands of Jinshi，successful candidates in the Imperial examinations.Many celebrated and far－sighted personage came from this city，and thus，the birth of these figures brings glory to the city.With its long history，there are many traditional handicraft industries in Fuzhou，including the well－known three treasures:Bodiless lacquer wares，horn combs and oil－paper umbrellas.Today，folk arts such as Min Opera are still playing an important role in Chinese culture.

The weather of the city is warm and comfortable and is perfect for tourists to visit the city all the year round，especially in spring and autumn.Besides those must－see scenic spots，Fuzhou cuisine cannot be missed too.As one of the eight Chinese regional cuisines，Fuzhou dishes are light but flavorful，with particular emphasis on retaining the original flavor of the main ingredients instead of masking them.The most famous one is“Fo Tiao Qiang”，which means the dish is so inviting，even the Buddha climbs over the wall for it.Another famous dish is called Rouyan，a special kind of dumplings with the wraps made from pounded pork.All these aspects make Fuzhou an agreeable tourist city.
