历史课的展示

【摘要】:因为除了数学和科学课外,展示是一个美国课堂最常见的习惯。并不太像我们在中国课堂中作的展示那样,美国课堂中的这种活动更加频繁。展示的分数在总成绩中占了很大一部分,有时它的份量甚至超越了考试成绩。美国历史对我是最难的一门课。和其他课程的展示相比,这个课题看起来也更难更大。这是我第一次做历史展示,对于整个展示的模式完全没有概念。

历史课的展示

在学习过了民权运动和越战的一个大单元后,我们每一个人都需要做一个最终展示和演讲,总结我们从自己角度如何理解这两个重大历史事件。为了完成这项任务,Mr.Gross给了我们一个越战期间创作的歌曲条目单。要求是我们可以从这清单中挑选一首歌曲,以其内容和创作背景为主线完成展示。整个班的学生被分成了五组,将以合作形式完成。我们仅仅拥有两节课的时间完成课题的演讲、介绍和录像制作。

作展示对我倒不太新鲜。因为除了数学和科学课外,展示是一个美国课堂最常见的习惯。并不太像我们在中国课堂中作的展示那样,美国课堂中的这种活动更加频繁。通常,一个单元结束后,老师很可能会要求我们通过幻灯片展示来考察我们对于这些课程知识的理解究竟到达什么程度。展示的分数在总成绩中占了很大一部分,有时它的份量甚至超越了考试成绩。

美国历史对我是最难的一门课。和其他课程的展示相比,这个课题看起来也更难更大。这是我第一次做历史展示,对于整个展示的模式完全没有概念。I-Chau,Zhou Fang和我在老师分组以前便积极地组成一组。这让他大吃一惊,因为我们是整个班里唯一一个只有外国学生的一组。他曾向我们表示他的担忧,因为历史课题需要的不仅仅是对英语课文的理解,同时也是需要对于文化的深刻理解。他问我们是否需要任何美国学生的加入和帮助。不过我们真的犹豫了一下,因为我们深切懂得Mr.Gross的话的严峻性。最终我们还是拒绝了,我们说我们自己可以的。

As foreign students,aside from the language hindrance of giving speeches and making introductions in public,doing the videos by using the English programs that I have never known is the first challenge.

I-Chau and I first discussed the song that we were going to use as the main topic.After a few times of changing,we finally made up our mind to choose the song named Get your rights,Jack which was written in the years of civil rights movement.

Right after being sure which song is going to be used,we called up Zhou Fang to search the backgrounds on the internet.I searched all over Google and collected the pictures of every event that had once happened during the years of civil rights as many as possible.We picked half of them to be imported into the movie.

We were required to make a small movie with both the music and the pictures that we would make speech on.By the time that we were ready to edit,I had already read through all the rules of it.When we actually started,the difficulties were still quite a lot.After several times'trying,I found I-Chau was much better with these things.Zhou Fang and I then talked over and finally decided to assign the task of making the movie to I-Chau.And I was in charge of collecting the materials of the song we chose and writing papers of it.

作为外国学生,除了作公共演讲和介绍的语言障碍,用从未用过的全英文操作软件制作电影便是我们第一个挑战。

I-Chau和我首先讨论了我们决定选择作为线索的歌曲。经过几次变动,我们最终决定选用一首名为Get your rights,Jack的民权运动歌曲。

定完歌曲,我们一同叫上Zhou Fang上网搜索音乐背景。我们几乎查遍了Google网页,收集了关于民权运动期间每一起政治事件的图片,随后挑选了一半用到我们的电影里面。

我们需要制作一个与演讲相关的包含音乐图片的小电影。当我们准备编辑时,我已经通读了软件的操作说明。当我们实际开始的时候,仍旧困难重重。经过几次尝试,我发现I-Chau似乎比我要懂得多。经过商量我们最终决定将电影制作的大任留给I-Chau。我便负责收集更多资料和写演讲稿。

Get your rights,Jack is a song with lots of English slang.In searching and reading the lyrics,I tried my best to figure out the meaning with my understanding of its emotion and author.Mr.Gross was indeed right.English is not the only need of learning American history. Since I have started doing the project,I have spent almost every night whether it is a weekday or not preparing for it.Coincidentally and unfortunately,the laptop at my home was broken down that week.Before getting it repaired,I had to type or use any computer in the school library.It was difficult to find any specific introduction of this song on internet.Luckily,with the help of Mr.Gross's explanations and my own understanding,I finished the speech paper several days before the presentation day.On the day before presentation,I-Chau,Zhou Fang and I gathered in the library and organized our work together.We revised them for another two times and were ready to show.

On the presentation day,students had been busy preparing for speeches when I stepped into the classroom.American students actively requested to be the first.I asked I-Chau when to show.I still remember how she answered,saying that let it go naturally.I agreed but the lasting couldn't make me forget about my nervousness.Those American students did a good job indeed.Their speeches were influent and their movies looked good.We were originally ready to present that day.In cause of the limited class time,we became the only group that didn't have time to show up.We were made to present on the next day's class. Mr.Gross turned on his smile and left all of us the words of“we wait the last for the best.”I still remember how the words made three of us feel shy and a little bitanxious.

这首民权运动的歌曲包含了很多英语俚语。在查找和剖析歌词的过程中,我竭尽自己的全力理解作者的情感背景。Mr.Gross很对,学习美国历史需要的不仅是英语语言能力。自从我开始着手这项课题,我几乎花掉了周末和平时的每个晚上查找资料。很不巧和不幸,家里的电脑在这时又坏掉了。在它修好之前,我只能使用学校图书馆的电脑。在网上这首歌的具体介绍和分析很难找到。幸运的是,在Mr.Gross的解释和我的领悟下,我最终在展示的前几天完成了演讲稿。在演讲的前一天,我们组三人聚集到图书馆,把我们的工作汇总,将稿件和电影修改润色了两遍后,做好了最后的准备。

展示的那一天,我踏进教室发现课前的大家全都在紧张忙碌地准备着自己的演讲和展示。美国的学生们很积极地要求第一个作展示。我问I-Chau我们什么时候展示,我一直记得她说顺其自然好了。我点头说好,然而这漫长的等待却始终令我无法释怀自己的紧张。同学们做得真的很精彩。他们的讲演很流利,电影看起来也很棒。我们原本已经做好了所有的准备。结果因为课上时间不够,我们成为了唯一一组第二节课展示的小组。Mr.Gross脸上露出一丝微笑对我们说,我们为了最好的期待着最后一组。我始终记得那些话怎样令我们一下子害羞而紧张。

After the class,I-Chau consoled me to take it easy.It was true that what it needs to be done were all done.What we had to do next was waiting calmly and being confident.In spite of this,I was still worried.

On the second day,I came to class earlier than usual.While I Chau and Zhou Fang were copying the files on the computer,I again quickly read through the paper and calmed myself down.When we three began,people applauded.Talking with glimpsing the paper from time to time,my voice was a little quivering.The speech might not be perfect,but I dare to say that it was successful.I-Chau and Zhou Fang did well,too.Also,the movie made by I-Chau was impressive and excellent.We ended our showing with a bow.Mr.Gross at once deemed highly of our presentation in class.

Right before I-Chau,Zhou Fang and I left the class,Mr.Gross stopped us at the door.He gave a really good evaluation on both the movie and the paper of us with saying the work that we did could be even more wonderful than some American students.You couldn't imagine howexcited we were when heard that.

Later,I saw my presentation score on Center Point.I got 48 out of 50.It was unbelievable to get a score like that,but we together made it.

课后,I-Chau安慰我说要放轻松。不过确实,所有该做的一切都已经完成了。接下来我们需要做的就是平静地等待时间的到来和使自己更加自信。尽管如此,我还是不可避免地担心着。

第二天,我比通常来得早了很多。当I-Chau和Zhou Fang还在忙着复制着一个个庞大的文件,我一遍又一遍过着自己的演讲稿。当我们三个人开始的时候,大家很热烈地鼓掌。说话时依旧不停地看着自己的稿子,我能感到自己的声音有些颤动。虽然演讲不是十全十美,但我想一定可以称之为成功。I-Chau和Zhou Fang也都做得很棒。电影很精彩。我们结束展示时向大家深深鞠了一躬。历史老师曾高度评价我们的演讲和展示。

在I-Chau,Zhou Fang和我离开教室之前,Mr.Gross叫住了我们三个。他对于我们的小电影和演讲稿给予了很好的评价,告诉我们许多工作完成得可以说比一些美国的同学还要出色。你也许无法想象我们当时有多么激动与兴奋。

后来,我看到了我们那次展示的成绩,我们得到了50分中的48分。这样的分数看上去很令人难以置信,但我们做到了。
