形态：小型鸟类，体长13-16cm。雄鸟头顶、腰、喉、胸红色或洋红色，背、肩褐色或橄榄褐色，羽缘沾红色，两翅和尾黑褐色，羽缘沾红色。雌鸟上体灰褐或橄榄褐色、具暗色纵纹，下体白色或皮黄白色、亦具黑褐色纵纹。

虹膜深褐色；嘴角褐色；脚褐色。

分布：中国大部分地区有分布。在保护区属常见的旅鸟和冬候鸟。

习性：栖息于低山丘陵的疏林中，越冬期在果园、农田、村落附近可见。以植物性食物为主。
