Last weekend,[1] our teacher came up with the idea to build a Chamber of China to create a fine atmosphere for the foreign students to learn Chinese culture.[2]All of us agreed with delight and we decided to make this Chamber of China a daily study and activity room for the foreign students.[3]

To start with[4], the classroom was tidied by us.[5] One girl swept the floor while another girl cleaned the window. I put the desks and chairs in order.[6] The classroom looked much cleaner after our effort, and our hearts were brightened up as well.[7]

Last term, we carried out the enquiry learning program in our class. I was in a study group with two very capable classmates. We shared the same passion for our subject and decided to complete the enquiry learning process together.

Before we started, we gathered to exchange ideas about approaches to research and had a discussion on the angles we should cut in from on this subject. I was impressed with the range of knowledge they had. Upon agreeing on one title, we spent the next month doing research in the library during after-school hours. Along with reading books introducing this subject, we also turned to the Internet for some researching skills and techniques, which proved to be incredibly helpful when we started to interview teachers and students around the campus to collect data. A lot of people voiced their opinions while we listened and took notes. At the final stage, we processed the data and information to reach a conclusion and wrote a paper. On the last day, we presented our findings with pie charts and verbal explanation, before answering questions from the judges.

The days we devoted to enquiry learning have been the most memorable days of my time in high school so far. It was of great significance, and I was fortunate to be working with my teammates, learning lessons that would continue to benefit the rest of my life.

On August 21st, I wrote a composition titled “My Hero/Heroine” from the inspiration of the Chinese Women's Volleyball Team.[1]

Last Sunday, I came back to Beijing after a short-term study in Canada. Early in the morning, I arrived at the airport. After claiming my luggage, I hurried to the exit where my parents were anxiously waiting for me.

I waved in excitement and ran to hug them. Sitting in the car talking about my experience in Canada, I felt great coming back home.

I rested for a while and then went back to my room to empty my suitcase. After taking out my jacket, a book came into my sight. Immediately I recognized the cover and realized that it was a novel I had borrowed from the Coldwater School Library during my stay in Canada. For a moment I couldn't believe my eyes. It seemed that I had forgotten to return it on time and took it all the way back home by mistake.

How would the teachers there think about me? I was aware that my carelessness had brought inconvenience to the librarians there, and I decided to compensate for my mistake as soon as possible. I told my parents about the book and they suggested sending it back. So I checked the school's address on the Internet, copied it onto an envelope and wrote a letter expressing my apology. Then I went to the post office with the book and the letter. It was not until the worker at the post office confirmed that the book would be sent the next morning did I feel a bit relieved.

I learnt from this experience that we should have the courage to correct our mistake instead of trying to cover it, and I will remember to check my belongings carefully the next time I go on a trip!

This morning, a strong wind blew and snow fell, creating a beautiful world of ice and snow. Looking at this dramatic scene, I was eager to go outside and take some pictures in the garden.

The minute it stopped snowing, out I went, with the camera hanging around my neck. Hardly had I turned around a corner when I saw a man lose his balance and fall down in front of me. I immediately ran over and assisted him to his feet. Realizing it was the slippery and icy road that caused us danger, I decided to do something. I rushed back home at once, grabbed a broom, went outside again and got down to work. I swept the road in our community during the following two hours. Cold as it was outside, sweat soon ran down my back. My arms got sour and I felt tired, but I kept on working.

I was just about to finish when two neighbors of mine passed by. They praised me for what I had done and gave me thumb-up signs. Feeling happy about my effort being appreciated, I worked much harder and finished it soon.
