Friends Around Are Better
“Excuse me.”
A beautiful deer visited Aesop.
“Do you want a new actor?”
Aesop took the deer’s hands.
“Welcome!”
“Well... I want a hero!”
“Of course.”
“对不起。”
一只漂亮的鹿来找大狼伊索。他说：
“你需要新演员吗？”
大狼伊索和鹿握了握手，说：
“欢迎你！”
“那么……我要演主角！”鹿说。
“当然可以。”大狼伊索回答说。
“Let’s talk about the play.”
Aesop took the deer to the sofa.
“It’s hot. Do you have a fan?”
Aesop told Libbit to fan the deer.
“Umm... I’m thirsty.”
Aesop told Presy to bring
something to drink.
“那我们来谈谈剧本吧。”
大狼伊索一边说，一边让鹿在沙发上坐下来。
“真热呀。你们有扇子吗？”
大狼伊索叫力比兔给鹿扇扇子。
“嗯……我口渴了。”鹿又说。
于是，大狼伊索叫狐狸普莱西去给他拿饮料来。
Aesop said with a soft voice.
“Your horns are great. Your legs are...”
Then, the deer looked happy.
“I know my horns are great. But, I don’t like my legs.
They are not strong like an ox’s or a lion’s.”
Aesop pointed at the Shorties.
“Look at the Shorties’ legs!
Your legs are so great.”
伊索用很温柔的声音说：
“你的鹿角漂亮极了。你的腿也……”
鹿听了，脸上露出高兴的样子。他说：
“我知道我头上的角很漂亮。可我不喜欢我的腿。
我的腿太细，比不上牛和狮子的腿强壮。”
大狼伊索指着小矮猪们。他说：
“看看小矮猪们的短腿！
你的腿已经很棒了。”
As it grew dark, Aesop took the deer to a carriage.
He turned the Shorties out the carriage.
“You are so beautiful.”
Aesop stopped sweet-talk.
The deer was happy to hear that.
天慢慢黑了，大狼伊索让鹿住进了篷车。
他把小矮猪们从篷车里赶了出去。
“你真是漂亮。”
大狼伊索最后又赞美了一句。
鹿听了很高兴。
The Shorties got angry.
“Be calm. Aesop did all for our theater.”
Would you like to sleep in my room?” said Presy.
The Shorties and Libbit went to Presy’s room.
小矮猪们可不高兴了。
“别生气。伊索这么做都是为了我们的剧院好。
你们要不要到我房里来睡呀？”狐狸普莱西说。
于是，小矮猪们和力比兔都到普莱西的房间里去了。
The next day, Aesop appeared on the stage with a lion mask.
“Today’s play is ‘The Lion and the Deer’.
The deer acts a hero, and I act a lion.”
Libbit asked, “What part do we act?”
“Just watch us. I don’t need you now.”
Everyone got angry.
第二天，大狼伊索出现在舞台上，脸上带着狮子的面具。他说：
“今天演出的这场戏叫做《狮子和小鹿》。
鹿来演主角，而我来演狮子。”
力比兔问：“那我们演什么？”
伊索回答说：“你们只要看我们演就好了。现在我不需要你们。”
大家听了都很生气。
There lived a deer with great horns in the forest.
“My horns are beautiful.
They are better a crown of the king.
But, my legs are too thin.”
The deer was not happy with his thin legs.
森林里住着一只鹿，他头上的鹿角非常漂亮。
他说：“我头上的角很美。
连国王的王冠都比不上我的角。
可是，我的腿却不好看，它们太细了。”
鹿很不喜欢自己的细腿。
Suddenly, a mole showed up and shouted.
“It’s dangerous. Forest fire!
You’d better run away from here.”
Aesop packed up in hurry.
“Mr. Deer, would you help me?”
“No. I’m an actor!”
The deer went away.
戏还没演完，突然出现了一只鼹鼠，他大喊：
“危险。森林大火！
你们最好快点逃跑。”
大狼伊索赶紧收拾东西。他说：
“鹿先生，你能帮我一下吗？”
“不。”鹿拒绝说，“我可是个演员！”
于是鹿自己跑掉了。
Aesop said to everyone.
“What are you doing? Pack up!”
“Do you still need us?”
Aesop looked sorry.
“Sure. It was kidding.”
But, everyone went away.
“Hey, help me!”
大狼伊索又对大家说：
“你们都在干吗？赶紧收拾！”
“你仍然需要我们吗？”大家问。
伊索一脸不好意思。他说：
“当然了。我之前是在开玩笑。”
可是大家却都走掉了。
“喂，帮帮我！”大狼伊索喊着。
Aesop went up a hill pulling a carriage alone.
Then, the carriage stopped over a stone.
He tried to pull the carriage, but it was in vain.
Just then, it started to move.
The Shorties, Libbit and Presy were pushing it.
Aesop was happy to see them.
伊索只好一个人把篷车往山坡上拉。
可是，篷车被一块石头挡住了。
他使劲地拉篷车，可是不起作用。
就在这时，篷车动了起来。
小矮猪们、力比兔和狐狸普莱西都在后面推车呢。
大狼伊索看到大家心里很高兴。
“Help me!”
They heard a cry from a tree.
“That is a deer!”
The deer’s horns were caught in the branch.
“Let’s go and help.”
Libbit cut the branch from the deer’s horns.
But, the horns of the deer looked funny.
“救命啊！”
从一棵树那边传来求救声。
“是那只鹿！”有人说。
原来，鹿的角缠在了树枝里。
“我们去帮帮忙吧。”
于是，力比兔把缠着鹿角的树枝都砍断了。
现在，鹿角的样子变得可笑极了。
