结合语境，判断词义

我们知道一个英文单词有很多种中文释义，那么在翻译时应该对应哪种，这就需要根据语境来判断了。所谓语境就是指上下文。但上下文也包含很多因素，如语法关系，作者的写作思路等。如：

Here at home in England，under the fire of the Boche，we do not forget the ties and links that unite us to France，and we are persevering steadfastly and in good heart in the cause of European freedom and fair dealing for the common people of all countries，for which，with you，we drew the sword．

这句话中的“common people”该如何翻译，它的本意为普通人，但联系上下文我们不难发现战争和什么人有关呢？显然是手无寸铁的平民。所以参考译文为“为了争取欧洲的自由，为了各国的平民能受到公正的对待，我们曾与你们一道拿起武器并肩作战。”

此句中的“means something to you”看似应该翻译为“对你有意义的事情”但联系上下文中我们发现前文说道“你不喜欢的书”那么这句话作为呼应也应该是你觉得有意思或你喜欢的书。故参考译文为“但如果你把自己感到没劲的书放下另换别的，直到发现一本你认为有意思的书，然后轻松地读下去，那么几乎可以肯定你会感到很快活的。”
